The Medinah Society organization is located on the upper floor of an old Jewish Synagogue. This adaptive reuse of the synagogue building includes a medical center and health care clinic in the basement and a community center on the upper floor. The community center provides resources to local immigrants including support and education in the areas of after-school tutoring, cultural workshops, physical fitness and language programs. The Society website states that the mission of this organization is 1) To provide informative, educational health awareness related to adult and children, 2) To provide, educational, cultural and fitness programs/workshops for the community and 3) To provide a welcoming environment where clients can receive help and continued support despite their economic situation.
This center was created due to an increasing need in the South Asian community for health education and awareness. President Abdul-Hai, Dr. Masood Ali, and Dr. Ghousia Ali have served the community as primary care physicians for over 15 years. They have also provided unlimited family counseling to their patients. They have observed the need for their patients to have more detailed health education and social counseling. The medical center serves a diversified community with residents from over 20 countries. 80% of Miracle Medical Center patients are immigrants from over 12 countries. Approximately 50% of the patients are from low-income families. Text by Arijit Sen |
