Cary's Lounge
2251 W Devon Ave. Chicago, IL 60659
Built in 1923, Cary’s lounge is one of the only buildings on Devon with its original storefront still intact and still has some of it’s original interior. Hinting at the Mission/Spanish Colonial Revival style, Cary’s has a green terra cotta mansard, a common architectural feature seen within the building stock along Devon including 2317, 2721, and 2725-2729 W. Devon Ave.
Other notable features include the recessed entries and original prism glass transom above the storefront windows. The large neon sign is not original to the building, but is reminiscent of the early neon and bulb light signs common along the street during the mid 20th-century, some of which are depicted in a mural in the women’s lavatory. On the interior you can see the original tile in the storefront window and the original bar that was added with the second owner. Source: Jennifer Harrman Photo credit: Jennifer Harrman
